Fall 2011

· Two Yang Academy students were selected to participate in Part II of the Maryland High School Mathematics Competition.

· Two Yang Academy students were selected to participate in the Math Prize for Girls contest (Cambridge, Massachusetts).

· A student began to play viola in the Metropolitan Orchestra at Montgomery College (Rockville, Maryland).

Summer 2011

· A student played viola in Avanti - the Orchestra of the Friday Morning Music Club (Washington, DC) in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Spring 2011

· A student received a Certificate of Distinction for superior performance on the American Mathematics Contest 12 (AMC 12).

· A student received a Certificate of Participation for participating in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).

· A student received a bronze medal in the National French Contest.

· A student received a plaque in recognition of the student’s excellent musicianship and loyalty to The Landon Symphonette (Bethesda, Maryland).

Fall 2010

· A student played violin with the Damascus Theatre Company in 8 performances of a Broadway musical, She Loves Me, which was nominated for 10 Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH) awards.

· A student was selected to participate in Part II of the Maryland High School Mathematics Competition.

Summer 2010

· A student played viola in Avanti - the Orchestra of the Friday Morning Music Club (Washington, DC) in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Spring 2010

· A student published a letter in the National Geographic.

· A student was selected to participate in a national mathematics competition (ARML) at Pennsylvania State University as a member of the Montgomery County D team.

· A student received a bronze medal in the National French Contest.

· A student began to play viola in the Landon Symphonette (Bethesda, Maryland).

Fall 2009

· A student received first prize as an advanced division team captain in Jeopardy at the Montgomery County Francophone Festival (Rockville, Maryland).

· A student began to perform scientific research in atomic-level energy minimization of systems containing thousands of atoms and global optimization of functions involving hundreds of variables.

Summer 2009

· A student was invited to play violin in the National Philharmonic Summer String Institute for High School Students (Rockville, Maryland).

Spring 2009

· A student received a busker’s permit and performed in Rockville’s town center (Rockville, Maryland); the Montgomery Extra of the Washington Post reported the student’s audition for the permit.

· A student received a silver medal in the National French Contest.

Fall 2008

· A student was invited to play violin in the Montgomery College Symphony Orchestra (Rockville, Maryland).
